Wotlk Leveling Guide

If you are a complete newbie in World of Warcraft you may feel lost. Don’t really know where to quest, what are optimal questing routes etc? World of Warcraft is mainly designed to reach maximum level and go into PVP or PVE, so everybody wants to hit 80 ASAP. Leveling guides may really speed up the entire leveling process for you.

There are tons of leveling guides out there in the market, most of them are worthless, there are free ones too, but free guides won’t offer you much, just plain text, no images, no maps, links or addon that is main reason leveling is fast. Ok, let’s leave these rubbish options, we want the best. So which guide to choose? In this website I have reviewed 5 top World of Warcraft leveling guides. You can choose any of these 5 from sidebar to read a review, or go to the official page.

Best guide that has everything in it is Zygor Guide. This guide is my favorite one because of excellent addon. Using Zygor guide I have leveled my paladin from level 1 to level 80 in 5 days 2 hours 4 minutes and 25 seconds /played time! Oh and I was browsing AH with it a lot, there were afking and I have leveled my enchanting and blacksmithing. I’m adding a screenshot below. As you can see I have played for a while with my paladin, so to get the leveling time I just did magic formula: total time played – time played at lvl 80 = leveling time.

You will get better results using a leveling guide. Authors of these guides are all WoW players; they have been spending endless amounts of hours searching for the best routes. I strongly recommend for you all to get a leveling guide, even if you are pro, or a rookie. Enjoy the game more and wander lost less!

Zygor Guide

#1 Leveling Guide

I would like to start by saying that this guide is my favorite, and in my opinion best leveling guide around. You may notice that this review is longer than other ones, but I can’t help it, Zygor has a lot of great stuff to offer, and I want to tell about it ;)

Just to give you quick fact: using Zygor leveling guide I have leveled my paladin from 1 to 80 in 5 days 2 hours 4 minutes and 25 seconds! And that is INCLUDING the time I have spent in the auction house and leveling up my blacksmithing and enchanting skills. If you go for pure leveling you will have even better results! I dinged 80 just following the guide, didn’t do any dungeons (however, the new LFG tool that was brought in 3.3 was really tempting).

So what’s so huge about this guide? Answer – very flexible and smart in-game addon. It’s even better than that which is offered by Team iDemise. Zygor’s leveling guide addon can read the quests your character already has completed, and offer you unique, optimal questing route. For example, you have level 30 character (or any level, doesn’t matter) that you want to continue leveling using this guide. You just press a button and addon will offer you unique questing route according to what quests you have already done, what places you have visited.

Another major thing – if you are using Recruit-a-Friend (you know the triple xp bonus), heirloom items, or you just love to do some battlegrounds or dungeons during leveling process; guide will adapt to your unique play style and offer you the best questing route. You will never go behind the guide.

Think that’s all? No way! Ever seen a GPS (you know tom-tom etc. ;) ). I’m almost sure you did. Zygor leveling guide has got in-game quest GPS arrow! This arrow will always point to the direction you should be heading to turn in or pickup a quest, to kill mobs etc. You won’t be lost ever again! It’s like having a pro gamer just behind you that is telling you what to do next. This arrow allow you to always run, without a stopping to read a guide, making your /played super!

So I’m gonna make some pros and cons bullets so you can see all the advantages and disadvantages with ease.

Pros:

  • Excellent in-game mod with quest GPS arrow
  • Talent advisor
  • Guide works with heirloom items, RAF and pre-leveled characters
  • Supports both – horde and alliance
  • Addon is very easy to install, great instructions how to do it
  • Cover all class quests
  • Including all starting zones

Cons:

  • Could come up with only 1 minor minus – guide is not adding group or dungeon quests to your questing route. There are some really easy group quests that anyone could solo for easy xp, but you won’t find them here. Well, this guide is fastest one, so maybe my opinion is wrong about group quests for best /played ;)

Team iDemise leveling guide

Team iDemise leveling guide

Team iDemise has got a good reputation in FPS game scene. Of course, that means absolutely nothing in MMORPGs. Just wanted to say, don’t get discouraged by this information, these guys are realm pros, and really know how to make a good gaming product.

iDemise provides you excellent thing – in game leveling addon and map mod. This addon is really major, and really makes iDemise leveling guide stand out of other wotlk leveling guides (however, this addon is not the best one you can get, Zygor is offering even better one). This addon allows you enjoy game more without endless alt+tabbing to the PDF guide or website. Plus there is a built-in talent advisor that will help you out tons if you are new in WoW or just rolled a new class.

While I was leveling with iDemise leveling guide, I have never though “why I do this in this way, there is faster one”. Guide logically walks you through all levels, and what’s best about it – it does it really fast. The speed comes from addon, because you don’t have to alt+tab every time you need to pick up a quest, turn it in, or go to specific location to kill mobs.

Now to put all good and bad things in one place:

Pros:

  • Very good in-game addon
  • Guide supports both sides – horde and alliance
  • The 2nd best guide in all tested leveling guides
  • This leveling guide is cheaper than competitor products
  • Talent advisor, helping you spec your character

Cons:

  • Guides are sold separately
  • Guide doesn’t adapt to your play style, you have to strictly stick to it

Joana’s Horde Leveling guide

Joana’s Horde Leveling guide

Joana is one the first players who have made a World of Warcraft leveling guide. He did it back in the vanilla wow days, so he is well known on the Internet and among WoW players.

I have leveled my very first character to level 60 using this guide. Years have passed and guide has evolved. Joana is regularly updating his horde leveling guide, whenever a new major patch comes out. Now it’s fully ready for wotlk. In my opinion this is best guide that offers horde-only wotlk leveling guide. However there are combo (both horde and alliance) leveling guides that are faster and more efficient than Joana’s horde leveling guide.

What I love about his guide, what was a real lifesaver in some points of my leveling journey – videos of entire leveling process. Joana caught entire leveling process on one huge video; you can see how Mancow (Joana’s character) is dinging level after level. These videos are really helpful when you don’t really know how to solo some hard quests (ex. Frostmaw when you are only level 30, and he is red for you). Videos will definitely help you a lot, especially if you are fresh WoW player.

Okay, to sum everything up, here are pros and cons bullets:

Pros:

  • Entire leveling process is saved on a video (over 13GB of videos)
  • Guide covers all horde races starting zones, making a perfect leveling guide for newbies
  • Addon with map mod (in-game guide)

Cons:

  • Sometimes you may struggle with certain task if you have chosen different class than hunter, because the guide is written from an angle of hunter. However, with minor self tweaks any class can use this guide
  • This guide is for horde players only. Similar guide for alliance players is offered by Brian Kopp. If you want to reroll alliance in future you may need to buy another guide
  • Not the fastest leveling route that’s on the market. If you are after top speed I suggest checking out Zygor guide or team iDemise
  • No class quests are covered

Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide

Dugi’s Ultimate WoW Guide

Author of this wow leveling guide Dave Farrell (aka. Dugi) is owner of one of the biggest /played times (over 7680 hours of /played, when it was last time recorded, I bet he has over 10k now, lol!). He is true World of Warcraft veteran, and he sure has got some quality information to offer.

What is mentionable about Dugi’s ultimate guide is that this is not only wotlk leveling guide. It includes gold farming guide and pvp guide too (if you want to read a review about Dugi’s gold farming guide, check out http://www.goldfarmingguide.info). Don’t you think that he has to offer a lot, but all his offered information is low quality. No, these guides contain great information (gold guide offers some unique gold farming techniques that you won’t find in any other guide).

Major difference that makes this guide stand out of other wotlk leveling guides is that it’s not an eBook (not a doc or pdf file you can download). Dugi gives you interactive website. Well, at first look this may seem not comfortable, but when you get used to it it’s even better, because you can always access quests information, locations and tips with a click of a button.

Another thing I want to mention – you won’t find an in-game addon in this guide (because of same thing – website compensates everything). So if you are after top speed, alt+tabbing to see the guide every time you need to check objective may really slow you down. But this wotlk leveling guide is great option for all new players, not chasing best /played.

To sum up all ups and downs here are some key bullets:

Pros:

  • Interactive website
  • Not only leveling guide, but also gold farming and pvp guides
  • Leveling guide suggests very fast questing route
  • You can apply this leveling guide for both sides

Cons:

  • Need to get used to the interactive website
  • No in-game addon
  • No talent advisor
  • Guide isn’t flexible, won’t adapt to unique play style (like heirlooms or RAF)

Brian Kopp’s Alliance Leveling Guide

Brian Kopp’s Alliance Leveling Guide

Brian Kopp’s guide is very similar to Joana’s horde leveling guide. This guide is written for alliance players only. Brian Kopp is a veteran player of Wow, and his guide is in the market for years now, so he has some good information to offer.

Guide is regularly updated (for all major expansions and patches), Brian is tweaking his guide for the best /played time he can get.

However there is one difference from Joana’s guide – Brian Kopp is not adding video files of leveling process, but instead he gives you a very nice pack of maps with all the information you may need. It’s really handy when you have everything in one place, instead on wowhead.

To clear things up and make it easier for you here are pros and cons of Brian Kopp’s guide.

Pros:

  • Bunch of nice maps with detailed information
  • Addon and map mod (in-game guide)
  • Suits all classes
  • Excellent guide for draenei shamans
  • Including all alliance races starting zones

Cons:

  • Alliance players only
  • Not offering the fastest questing route. If you are after speed I suggest that you check out Zygor guide
  • No class quests
  • No community forums
